Created by Martheus Wade and optioned for a motion picture, “Beginnings” will be the first in a series of Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa digital omnibus collections to be released over the next two years. “Beginnings” collects Jetta: Last Chances (first published in 2003) and Jetta: Crucible (first published in 2009) into one 120 page full color graphic novel. With all new story additions, art and ending commentary, Beginnings brings an entirely new reading experience to these exciting books and provides an excellent jumping on point for new readers who have always wanted to check out one of the most popular female characters in independent comics.

It’s Oh So Quiet

I know things have been a little quiet over here the last few weeks. The summer has been a hectic roller coaster of deadlines, new work, and those pesky bills (yes, I have them too) that keep coming up. Life can really get in the way of productivity. So, I’ve had to work very hard and very quickly on things that are not directly Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa related. That’s a good thing. The more artwork that I do, the more eyes will fall back on everyone’s favorite raven haired ninja. The bad part about this is that, most of the things I’m working on now won’t be seen for months. That’s a bummer. But, know that I am working and when these new projects are released, it’s going to seem like my art work is everywhere. I’m really looking forward to that.

Back in the Jetta world, I have been working on the final graphic novel in the series and loving it. Things are heating up and I’m really proud of the work that has been coming out of me with these pages. The story is top notch and an excellent way to close this chapter of Jetta’s life. Speaking of endings, let’s talk beginnings. As you all know, when one door closes another door opens. That can’t be more true with what I have planned for the readers in 2013. As well, I’m going to need ALL of the support from the readers once things go down. I hope you guys can respond in kind!

Girl Power!!

One thing that I have noticed over the years is that our female readership has grown tremendously. They are very vocal and very loyal. I really think that is cool! I love to see diversity in comics and comics readers and to know that women enjoy the character as much as they do, is a very good thing. So, I wanted to do something to celebrate that. Here is a piece that I did, called Girl Power, where I tried to get the most famous female fighters together in one awesome pin-up! From video games to comics, I tried to cover as much territory as I could. I still missed a few. But the martial arts power speaks for itself! Hope you guys like it.

All Cons!! All The Time!!

So, team Toshigawa has finally emerged from the convention tour we have been on for two weeks. While it was fun to hit Superman Celebration and Anime Blues Con in back to back weekends, it was also exhausting! We also made it out of the art whirlwind that was May and June that saw the release of Jetta: Beginnings from Action Lab Entertainment, Free Comic Book day, and our 2nd MAW Productions Drink N Draw. However, after the smoke cleared and the dust settled, we had two great convention experiences! Here’s a rundown of what you missed.

SUPERMAN CELEBRATION 2012

Superman Celebration was all about family for me and Janet as we took Anakin (our son not the Jedi/Sith) to his first real convention. Things where a little hectic juggling daddy duties and being available at the MAW Productions booth. But, in the end, things worked out well. So, since a picture is worth 1000 words, I got plenty of photos to show you guys.

I did two seminars on breaking into the comic book industry! I had an awesome time!

Anakin saw Green Arrow and had to take a picture with him! This is an awesome picture!

Anakin also fell in love with Wonder Woman. He was looking for her after this picture so he could take another one with her.

Found this car outside of Lamberts and Anakin and I decided to take a spin around the block!

ANIME BLUES CON 2012

Anime Blues Con 2012 was all about work, work, work. Some of you guys know that I’m also a convention head for the art track at ABC. What that means is, not only am I set up for the convention at the MAW Productions booth, but I am also responsible for artist alley, the art panels, and the artist guests of honor. It can be a lot of fun. But it is also very taxing. Here are a few photos from the weekend.

Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa has been a graphic novel fixture for 17 years as readers have followed Shianndrea Toshigawa, AKA Jetta, on her journey to become the Chosen One of the Toshigawa Ninja clan. Now, the books climatic end is fast approaching. With a live action movie in the works, the creative team that brought you this independent hit would like to celebrate this 17 year journey with Anime Blue Con! Come meet MAW Productions creators, Martheus Wade, Kevin Williams and Janet Wade with special guests Alex Zemke and Andrew Chandler as they talk the past, present and future of this exciting story. Jetta Begins Next Week!!

Next Friday, May 18th, our first omnibus titled Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa – Beginnings will hit the digital market by storm! Published by Action Lab Entertainment in conjunction with MAW Productions Studio, this book marks the first time Jetta and company has been released entirely in color and specifically for digital release. Jetta: Beginnings is the first book in a series of digital omnibi that will hit periodically over the next two years. At 123 pages of martial arts action, we can’t be happier with the results! Here are a few exclusive preview pages that we have released just to get you ready!!
