Something that you may not know about me is that I am big into education. It is the one thing that makes the difference between the poor and the well to do. It is also the one thing that no person can take away from you once you have it. As an independent publisher and illustrator, the one thing that I can give back to young artist coming up are my experiences and knowledge that I have acquired (through trial and error). Hopefully younger artists will be able to avoid the pot holes that I hit and make their way to bigger and better heights. That’s what artistic community is all about. It’s how we keep moving forward.
This summer I will be traveling to different schools around Tennessee speaking about my career in comics, how I got started in art, and how students can better themselves in their artistic endeavors. Here are some shots from our first school tour in Nashville. We went to two schools that day and spoke to over 150 students about the importance of “the process” in art. Here are some shots from Rock Springs Middle School!
Thanks to Rock Springs Middle for the great photos. As well, thanks to Joe Thordarson for allowing me to take part in the tours. Our next tour is coming up in March and I’m looking forward to meeting the new faces of comics and entertainment!
